First Desktop Application to Generate Automator Actions for the Development and Execution of Scientific Data Analysis Pipelines

“Today's computer aided scientific research involves the use of many discrete, mostly UNIX command-line driven applications on top of a scalable computing infrastructure”

The BioTeam Inc, a leading provider of consulting services for scientific computing, and developer of the award winning iNquiry software, today announced immediate availability of iNquiry XTE for use with Tiger.

iNquiry XTE, is BioTeam's new open source Web Service desktop client for iNquiry enabled Apple Workgroup Clusters. iNquiry XTE uses Apple's application development technology to provide a rich graphical user interface to more than 170 cluster-enabled UNIX command-line Life Sciences applications. iNquiry XTE is the first application to enable users to dynamically generate customized Automator actions with a single mouse click. These Automator actions can be used to develop and execute complex data analysis workflows, consisting of cluster-enabled life science applications integrated with desktop productivity tools.

"Today's computer aided scientific research involves the use of many discrete, mostly UNIX command-line driven applications on top of a scalable computing infrastructure," said William Van Etten, Founding partner & principal investigator. "iNquiry XTE for the Mac provides application integration and interoperability through an open, standards-based mechanism and the necessary Apple "ease of use" to enable the scientist that might not also be a computer scientist."

"With hundreds of breakthrough features, like Automator and Spotlight, and its unique combination of rock solid stability, security and ease of use Tiger is the most advanced operating system in the world," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "We're excited by iNquiry XTE's use of Automator to develop a powerful tool to send workflows to high performance bioinformatics clusters and significantly accelerate scientific discovery."

"The new iNquiry XTE interface streamlines process input in a format that Mac platform users are used to, with the bonus of adding new capability for automating scientific tasks," said Ed DeLong, MIT Professor, Department and Division of Biological Engineering.
