NEC Solutions America Elevates Barry Fisher to Top Post at Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems Division
Fisher, who joined NEC in 2004 as associate vice president, is charged with driving growth in the biometrics market in North America. Fisher will guide NEC as it seeks to widen its leadership position in providing automated fingerprint and palmprint identification systems to law enforcement.
“I am pleased to accept this new position, and am eager to continue NEC's great legacy of delivering the world's finest biometrics systems to law enforcement agencies in this region”
"NEC is privileged to have someone of Mr. Fisher's caliber leading our biometrics efforts in North America, and I anticipate continued success and growth with his promotion," said Tadao Kondo, president and CEO, NEC Solutions America.
"I am pleased to accept this new position, and am eager to continue NEC's great legacy of delivering the world's finest biometrics systems to law enforcement agencies in this region," said Fisher. "NEC has repeatedly been recognized for the accuracy and technical superiority of its biometrics solutions, but our yardstick for success is the return on investment and real-world results witnessed by our customers. Customers will remain our focus going forward."
In the past year, NEC biometrics technology has received top-ranking in two prominent U.S. Government-sponsored studies. In July 2004, NEC achieved the number one position in all categories of the Fingerprint Vendor Technology Evaluation (FpVTE) 2003, sponsored by the Justice Management Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and conducted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
More recently, NEC's fingerprint technology earned top ranking in most categories of the Slap Fingerprint Segmentation Evaluation 2004 (SlapSeg04), sponsored by the Justice Management Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and concluded earlier this year.
Fisher brings an extensive background in sales and marketing for the biometric industry. Prior to joining NEC, he was the vice president of sales for Identix Corporation focused on live scan fingerprint systems, mobile identification, physical access control and facial recognition technologies. He has successfully marketed to state, federal and international government agencies, and held sales positions at Recovery Engineering and Tennant Company.
Fisher earned a bachelor's degree in financial economics from the University of Iowa and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas.
