Healthcare Napkins Wins SlideShare’s World’s Best Presentation Contest for 2009

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SlideShare, the world’s largest community for sharing presentations announced the winners of the World’s Best Presentation Contest 2009, sponsored by Adobe Acrobat 9. Finalists were chosen by a panel of judges comprising technology leaders Padmasree Warrior, CTO of Cisco, Guy Kawasaki, Managing Director of Garage Technology Ventures, and David Armano, founding member of Dachis group and author of Logic + Emotion.

The 2009 World’s Best Presentation Contest was sponsored by Adobe Acrobat 9 and garnered over 3,750 entries from over 130 countries. This year’s contest entries were more popular than in previous years, reaching people not just on SlideShare, but on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Entries ranged from topics like Fantasy Animal Art to divorce to the science of retweets.

There were 3 Overall Winners, 5 Category Winners. SlideShare also announced special prizes for the Best Acrobat 9 Presentation and runner up.

1^st Place:

Healthcare Napkins All which earned top honors, was created by Dan Roam with Dr. Tony Jones. It summarizes the healthcare issue in America via simple napkin drawings. Not only is it engaging, but it manages to get through healthcare in 57 slides that are easy on the eyes.

SlideShare also announced that Web 2.0 Expo conference has invited Dan Roam to speak at their upcoming conference in November about the value of great presentation design. 2^nd Place:

Sheltering Wings by Sarah Cullem is about the Sheltering Orphanage in Burkina Faso, West Africa.

3^rd Place:

Feels Bad on the Back by Mohamad Faried promotes awareness about keeping your kidneys healthy.

The five category prizes were won by 24 Reasons why Twitter Sucks! in Technology, Eco-nomics, The hidden costs of consumption in Business, Simplicity in Creative/Offbeat, A crime so monstrous in Education and Who Is This Guy in About Me. The About Me category is unique to SlideShare and was exceptionally popular.
