Company Triples Support Revenue Year over Year, Increases Subscription Bookings by Greater Than 230 Percent and Extends Leadership in Enterprise Java
SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SpringSource, the leader in enterprise Java, today announced its most successful fiscal year ended April 30, 2009. The company more than tripled its support revenue from the previous fiscal year while achieving a series of milestones that both demonstrate SpringSource’s leadership position in the enterprise Java industry and its success delivering strategic value to customers, partners, IT operations professionals and developers.
“In advancing and expanding its software and support, SpringSource has risen relatively quickly to become a major enterprise Java player—one that has significant impact on the future direction of Java,” said Jay Lyman, enterprise software analyst, The 451 Group. “The company is positioned at the intersection of application development and application deployment and operations in enterprise environments, including virtualized and cloud architectures, and that is a good place to be right now.”
Evidence of SpringSource’s success is widespread and stretches over numerous key areas:

Open Source Java Innovation by Acquisition and Internal Development
- SpringSource acquired G2One, Inc., the company driving Groovy and Grails, and Hyperic, a leading provider of open source software for monitoring and managing enterprise applications. - SpringSource introduced two new lightweight application server runtimes, SpringSource tc Server and SpringSource dm Server. SpringSource dm Server is an OSGi-based Java server designed to run enterprise Java applications with a new degree of modularity, flexibility and reliability. SpringSource tc Server is Apache Tomcat hardened for enterprise use and coupled with key operational capabilities, advanced diagnostics and backed by mission-critical support.
An Expanded, Proven and Influential Executive Team
- SpringSource expanded its executive team to include proven visionaries across the open source and enterprise application landscape. Vibrant Developer Community Thought Leadership

The ubiquity of these frameworks and tools is not in dispute; Spring has now been downloaded more than six million times, the use of Grails is rapidly on the rise, Apache is the world’s most popular web server, and Tomcat is the most widely used application server.
- SpringSource introduced the Tomcat Expert Seminar Series, with sold-out events in 17 cities across three continents with more than 2,000 participants.
