ImageShack Announces Open Source Tools for Twitter Developers

ImageShack Launches Open Source Twitter Client Tweetero and New Features for Yfrog

LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ImageShack Corp., the largest independent photo hosting website with over 33 million monthly unique visitors, today announced that it has released a series of new tools for Twitter users and application developers.

“Our users told us they wanted to share full albums on Twitter, not just one image at a time. Now they can do this in a single click from www.yfrog.com.”

ImageShack’s Tweetero is an open source Twitter client for Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. Imageshack invites the open source community to participate in the evolution of this product. The source code for Tweetero can be found here: http://tweetero.com/.

Tweetero is media-friendly on 3G networks - the large image files can be uploaded in an Ajax manner, allowing the end-user to complete their Twitter message without waiting for the image to finish uploading. Images are uploaded and hosted on ImageShack's flagship Twitter media hosting service yfrog.com. The upcoming iteration of Tweetero will include the playback of high quality H.264 videos shared on Twitter.

In February, Imageshack launched yfrog.com, a simple tool for sharing images on Twitter that requires no registration. Yfrog is built on top of the same infrastructure that supports Imageshack, which includes three data center facilities in the Bay Area, linked together by a high-speed, ten gigabit fiber ring. Yfrog is deeply integrated throughout the Imageshack website, enabling simple image sharing to Twitter.

Through use of Yfrog’s extensive API, the service is now supported by leading IPhone Twitter applications:

* Tweetie

* Twitterberry

* Twittelator

Developers using Yfrog’s APIs can benefit from:

  • Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) support, enabling more security for third-party applications.
  • iPhone optimized images via API, enabling faster downloads for IPhone users.
  • Ads-free iPhone media player
  • Fast and free one-click media hosting through Yfrog.

Today, Imageshack also announced that users can send multiple images to Twitter in a single post. ImageShack CEO Jack Levin said, “Our users told us they wanted to share full albums on Twitter, not just one image at a time. Now they can do this in a single click from www.yfrog.com.”
