'The Changing Face of the Stormwater Industry' Seminar Series Coming to Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The “Changing Face of the Stormwater Industry” seminar series, initiated in early 2008 to share knowledge and best practices in stormwater management, will hold its next session on Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, in Madison, Wis.

The event, being held at the Madison Concourse Hotel, will feature presentations by respected academics, industry researchers and engineers. Topics will include WinSLAMM stormwater modeling software, Low Impact Development, and stormwater filtration techniques.

The seminar series aims to bring regulators, developers and solution providers together to discuss best practices and the frequently changing regulations pertaining to stormwater management.

The conference will feature a presentation by Dr. Bob Pitt, one of the world’s foremost authorities on stormwater issues. Pitt, the Cudworth Professor of Urban Water Systems at the University of Alabama, will provide attendees with updates in stormwater filtration.

Other confirmed speakers include the following:

• Christopher Carda, Project Manager at Westwood Professional Services Inc., will discuss Low Impact Development and offer a case study of Minnesota Target stores.
• John Voorhees, a Principal Engineer at consulting firm Earth Tech, will discuss the modeling features of WinSLAMM, a planning tool developed to better understand the relationships between sources of urban runoff pollutants and runoff quality. He will discuss how the tool can be used to calculate expected benefits of different types of biofiltration controls.
• Andrew Erickson, Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota’s St. Anthony Falls Research Lab, will speak about cost-effective assessments in the stormwater industry.
• Omid Mohseni, Associate Director of Applied Research at the St. Anthony Falls Research Lab, will speak about new methods to assess performance of hydrodynamic separators.
• Kwabena Osei, Research & Development Manager of Hydro International, will speak about the differences in lab protocols for assessing pollutant removal capabilities of stormwater separators.

The half-day conference on Nov. 17 starts with registration at 8:00 a.m., followed by the educational presentations from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and lunch. The conference is sponsored by Hydro International.
