BLC GigE and 10GigE Carrier Ethernet Products Offer a Full Range of Carrier Ethernet Service Delivery
Occam Networks® Inc. (NASDAQ:OCNW), a supplier of innovative Ethernet and IP-based access and aggregation equipment to telecommunications companies, announced today that its broadband loop carrier (BLC) 6450, BLC 6312 and 6314 products have received Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) 9 and 14 certification for delivery of Carrier Ethernet services from Iometrix test labs. Important standards in deploying Carrier Ethernet, these certifications ensure that services deployed over Occam’s BLC product family measure up to a common set of feature specifications and establishes a strong foundation for Ethernet ubiquity and interoperability.
The MEF's Certification Program is led by a global industry alliance of over 145 operators, vendors, component suppliers, and testing organizations promoting the use of Carrier Ethernet as a critical network and service convergence technology. It is designed to accelerate the introduction of Carrier Ethernet services by reducing the time and cost of equipment testing, and providing end users with consistent, reliable services across service providers and network equipment. Iometrix, the official certification laboratory of the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) and the MultiService Forum (MSF), conducted the certification tests.
The MEF 9 certification verifies that the BLC 6450 can deliver services including Ethernet Private Line and Ethernet Virtual Private Line to the subscriber across the UNI to conform to MEF technical specifications. Occam’s BLC 6450 also received the MEF 14 certification for traffic management and service performance, which tested for carrier Ethernet frame delay, frame delay variation, and frame loss ratio metrics as well as bandwidth profiles per ingress UNI, per EVC, and per Class of Service.
"We are proud to be a supporter and member of the Metro Ethernet Forum. The MEF 9 and 14 certifications provide our customers with the confidence that their Ethernet services meet the stringent requirements of the MEF Certification Program,” said Juan Vela, director, Solutions Marketing and Strategy. “It is another demonstration of Occam’s commitment to simple, reliable and high-performance broadband solutions that utilize Carrier Ethernet for the delivery of Ethernet services.”
The BLC 6450 increases the capacity of Ethernet protected networks by supporting 10GigE optical rings in interoffice or Metro applications as well as subtended access rings. The BLC 6314 has similar capabilities but is intended for smaller Layer 2 networks. The BLC 6312 is primarily intended for subscriber access over GigE optical links and also includes GigE backhaul. This BLC portfolio delivers business Ethernet services over GigE optical facilities but can also be used to meet residential triple play needs. Examples of Carrier Ethernet services include Transparent LAN Services to corporations, universities and private enterprises, Ethernet Private Line (EPL) and Ethernet Virtual Private LAN (EVPL) services.
