Rally Software Debuts First Programmable Internet Platform for Agile ALM
Innovative Platform-as-a-Service Architecture, New Mash-up Toolkit and Product Upgrades Enable Agile Organizations to Manage the Whole Software Lifecycle
TORONTO & BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rally Software Development Corp.®, the #1 partner for Agile success through its family of products, coaching and community support, today debuted the first programmable Internet platform for Agile lifecycle management. Combined with the release of Rally’s new Mash-up Toolkit and enhancements to Rally’s award-winning enterprise solutions, Rally customers can manage the whole software lifecycle using their own customized set of Rally applications.
By delivering a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) architecture specifically for software lifecycle management, Rally provides software-driven organizations with a programmable platform that extends the Rally application, connects disparate role-based tools and shares Rally data and views with other applications and Web portals.
“The beautiful thing about delivering a PaaS architecture is it directly meets our customers’ need to tailor ALM to their specific idea-to-market business processes,” said Ryan Martens, CTO and founder of Rally. “These platforms are being made popular in the enterprise by Salesforce.com® and Google®. Rally is at the forefront of offering ALM customers these same advantages, but tuned to the needs of the software-driven enterprise. We’re setting a new bar for the Agile and ALM industries, and we’re excited about the speed of innovation our customers will experience as a result.”
Building on Rally’s versioned Web Services APIs for REST, SOAP and JSON, Rally is announcing these new PaaS capabilities:
- Rally Mash-up Toolkit for creating mash-ups, charts and views deployed in custom Rally tabs. User code lives on Rally servers in the cloud, eliminating need for extra IT or financial resources.
- Rally Integration Toolkit for creating integrations or custom reports. User code lives on the customer’s server behind the firewall.
- The ability to deploy Rally mash-ups into Web portals, wikis, IDEs, etc. to distribute information where it’s needed.
- A catalog of pre-built mash-ups, reports and views maintained by the Rally community on www.agilecommons.org.
- Object-to-object integrations that enable customers to display the details of external objects like support cases or defects inside Rally.
- A separate development and testing sandbox to test integrations and mash-ups prior to deploying into production.
In true Agile fashion, Rally began incrementally releasing these new features to select customers beginning in June 2008. After receiving customer feedback and praise, these capabilities are now being extended and packaged for use in all editions of Rally’s Agile lifecycle management solutions. Customers have already shared their mash-up enhancements and new integrations in Rally’s online community, Agile Commons.
Rally customer John-Mason Shackelford, Lean Software Development Coach for a large, education services company, said, “I am thrilled with the new dependency report page as dependency management is always a struggle. This is a terrific example of the new custom reporting capability because it’s useful today, and gives us plenty of code to look at related to creating the look and feel of our own custom views.”
Other enhancements to Rally’s award-winning enterprise solutions will include:
- Task board mash-up – A new visual task board gives teams a concise view of each iteration, just as if they were looking at a whiteboard and sticky notes.
- Hierarchical test folders – Rally Quality Manager users can manage complex regression test plans with new hierarchical and nested test folder structures.
- Upgrades to Rally Support Connector – New features in Rally’s integration with Salesforce.com CRM improve visibility into development status of support cases and streamline the management of customer-reported defects.
- Single Sign-On – Rally administrators can control access to Rally using their own corporate identity management system for easier administration and improved user experience.
- Password lockout – Administrators gain further protection and control over their development data with additional password security features.
- Portal log-in – Users can access Rally in fewer clicks directly from Rally’s home page or by adding the Rally login to the company’s intranet or any web page.
