Mixx Launches New Platform Feature: Mixx Communities
Mixx Communities Enable Individuals or Organizations to Establish Custom, Niche Social Media Sites
MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Mixx (http://www.mixx.com), a branded social news site, announced the launch of Mixx Communities http://www.mixx.com/groups/create_your_niche, a new product feature that enables individuals or organizations to efficiently establish custom, niche social media sites using the Mixx platform, related tools and functionality. Building on the Mixx philosophy of personalization and interactivity, Mixx Communities bring an entirely new dimension to the Mixx experience.
Mixx Communities are quick and simple to create, allowing individuals or organizations to tap into the already-existing archives of news categories and tags to import relevant content into the niche site. To differentiate Mixx Communities, the platform allows for custom artwork or logos to be uploaded, in addition to the selection of background colors. These personalized elements, in turn, are inherited by story, video and photo pages, as well as the submission screens and profiles. The community administrators will also have the ability to program videos and messages pertinent to the community at the top of their page. Later, administrators will also be able to host a poll on the front page of their community.
“We are thrilled to debut Mixx Communities,” said Chris McGill, CEO and founder of Mixx. “This new feature provides everyone with the opportunity to create a personalized social media experience around any theme or topic. All of the Mixx features and tools, such as breaking news and Mixx Mail, further enhance the relevancy and social networking potential of each of the Mixx Communities.”
Unique Sub-Domains for Mixx Communities
Each Mixx Community is accessible from a unique sub-domain on Mixx, providing custom navigational categories, sub-categories and direct access from the open Web. While Mixx Communities will have a custom look and feel inherent to each group, the Communities will have Mixx’s current infrastructure for registration, login, email sharing, site mail and user account preferences. Every group that is currently running on Mixx will have the option of upgrading to a Community. Each Community will operate under its own community standards, creating its own “rules of the road” guide for its members for submissions, comments or general behavioral norms within the Community.
Advertising in Mixx Communities, Revenue Sharing Model
Mixx Communities will also feature advertising integration, beginning with Google's AdSense program via the integration of the AdSense API, and will later expand to include other advertising services. Mixx Community administrators will be eligible to receive a share of advertising revenue that their communities generate, providing them additional incentive to use Mixx as a platform and grow their communities. Mixx Community administrators of non-profit organizations will be able opt out of advertising altogether.
Several organizations ranging from the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) to the GOP have already established communities on Mixx.
“The National Wildlife Federation hopes to use our Mixx Community as a hub for wildlife information,” said Danielle Brigida, associate operations coordinator of National Wildlife Federation. “The Mixx Community provides NWF with a branded destination for our members and supporters to share information about connecting with nature as well as learning about topics like global warming, endangered species, water and land conservation.”
