United States: AREVA Wins Portion of Hanford Tank Operations Contract
PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Regulatory News:
AREVA (Paris:CEI) has announced that the Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded a contract to Washington River Protection Solutions (WPRS), LLC, of which AREVA Federal Services is the dedicated subcontractor, to manage the remediation of DOE’s radioactive and hazardous underground waste tanks located at the Hanford, Washington, site.
The five-year base contract with a five year option is valued at $7.1 billion. The contract includes operations and construction activities required to store, retrieve and treat tank waste, and begin closure of the tank farms to protect the Columbia River. Nearly 53 million gallons of highly radioactive and chemically hazardous waste is stored in more than 170 underground tanks at the Hanford site.
Under the agreement of significant importance for AREVA, the group will provide personnel with extensive experience with the remediation of the Hanford site. In addition, AREVA will offer its proven technologies for enhanced chemical cleaning and radioactive waste vitrification know-how.
“AREVA is pleased to be a key member of the team selected for this important government contract. We bring to the project proven technologies that will enable successful completion of the tank farm clean up and closure,” said Michael McMurphy, President of AREVA Inc.
WPRS is a limited liability company formed by URS Corporation’s Washington Division and EnergySolutions, and together with AREVA, comprises the WRPS team.
