UINT: Solicore Powers Next Generation Card Technologies

Industry-Leading Embedded Power Solution Provider Fuels Discussion at CTST

CardTech SecurTech 2008

LAKELAND, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--According to an industry report by analyst firm Eurosmart, 2007 saw a 20 percent worldwide growth rate in the financial smart card industry, driven by proliferation in Asian markets and escalating adoption in the health care sector throughout Europe. With implementation of this technology rising around the globe, demand for thin, flexible power solutions has expanded exponentially. A recent analysis from NanoMarkets, LC titled Thin-Film and Printed Batteries Markets reveals revenues in the embedded power solutions market for applications including RFID, point-of-purchase displays, powered smart cards, medical devices and sensor networks could reach over $265 million by 2010.

“The U.S. market is still largely untapped, and it is our hope that having industry luminaries discussing the potential of this technology will spur domestic companies to further explore the ways in which these new technologies can benefit their customer base and operations”

Solicore is a U.S.-based leading provider of embedded power solutions and its patented technology is enabling these emerging applications on a global scale. Supplying its ultra-thin flexible Flexion® batteries to French-based UNIPAY'S INTELLIGENCE (UINT), Solicore is a driving force that powers this worldwide industry, fueling its fast growth.

During the CTST 2008 annual smart card and security show, Philippe Blot, CEO of UINT, will discuss smart card innovations and solutions on Tuesday, May 13 at 1:00 p.m. EDT. Philippe Blot will participate as a featured panelist in the Emerging Technology and Innovation spotlight, and will discuss further opportunities for Solicores Flexion batteries to power inlay platforms in multiple areas, such as security, payments, ID, acoustic and various lifestyle and affinity applications. UINT, former vice presidents of nCryptone, Philippe Blot and Jean-Charles Renaud, within the UNIPAYS Group, has a long-standing relationship with Solicore, who powers their award-winning MaatCard, the first worldwide acoustic contactless bankcard.

The Flexion batterys innovative design and technology are key elements driving global adoption of smart card technologies, and I believe the battery will also drive adoption within North America, despite the pricing concerns in the region in the past few years, says Philippe Blot. Solicores unique ability to provide power without adding bulk has enabled companies to bring new applications to market in an easily acceptable format for consumers.

Solicore shares Philippe Blots vision of a rapidly expanding market and is excited about the enormous potential powered inlay technologies represent.

The U.S. market is still largely untapped, and it is our hope that having industry luminaries discussing the potential of this technology will spur domestic companies to further explore the ways in which these new technologies can benefit their customer base and operations, says David Corey, CEO of Solicore. As Solicore continues to increase its production capacity, manufacturing multi-millions of the Flexion batteries for integration, we will benefit from economies of scale and help make it more financially feasible for companies in North America to adopt powered card applications.

Solicore will be attending CTST May 12-15, 2008 in Orlando, Florida. Please visit www.solicore.com for more information about Solicore and their Flexion battery portfolio.
