Philips Releases Remote Device Management Tool

Vendor Is the First to Offer Centralized Hardware Management for Dictation

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI)(NYSE: PHG) today announced the launch of its Remote Device Management Tool. Through the use of this tool, larger law firms and hospitals can centralize the configuration and administration of digital dictation hardware resulting in more efficient roll out of recorders across an enterprise, including multiple locations. Philips is the first company to offer centralized hardware management for dictation.

Historically, IT administrators have had to individually configure each dictation device. With the Philips Remote Device Management Tool, they can centrally configure all Philips Digital Pocket Memo recorders as well as the Philips SpeechMike. This is accomplished by connecting the recorder to a computer or placing it in a docking station, where configuration is automatically updated. All settings are linked to the individual serial number and are stored in a central database.

Centrally configured settings include keywords, button configurations, download options, display settings and microphone sensitivity. Administrators can assign configurations to individual recorders as well as to a group of recorders. So, in cases where each member of a specific user group (e.g. the mergers and acquisitions department or emergency room) is working with a Philips digital dictation recorder, the administrator can configure all the recorders within that group. Dictation functions can also be added or blocked to enhance the effectiveness of recorders used in that particular group. The Philips Remote Device Management Tool increases security, as only IT or administrators are permitted to change settings.

Thomas Brauner, CEO of Philips Speech Processing, said: At Philips we have looked at the needs of both our customers and our worldwide network of partners, and have found that they would benefit from the centralized management of dictation. We have recently launched new dictation hardware to make the customer's choice easier, depending on their individual needs, and now we are proud to present the first device management tool of its kind for larger installations.

The Philips Remote Device Management Tool consists of a server module, a management client and an updater client, which downloads and maintains the list of all device configurations. It is available free of charge to customers with larger installations and to resellers in the Philips partner network.
