GE Security’s CTX 9000 DSi™ Explosives Detection System Delivered to Abu Dhabi International Airport
Selection Adds to Growing Number of GE Inline EDS Protecting Middle East Airports and Travelers
BRUSSELS, Belgium--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GE Security, Inc., a business of GE Enterprise Solutions (NYSE:GE), today announced its Homeland Protection business has sold and delivered two CTX 9000 DSi™ advanced technology explosives detection systems to Abu Dhabi International Airport.
The CTX 9000 purchase reinforces GE Security’s strong and growing presence in the Middle East and reflects continued global adoption of its market-leading advanced technology, CT-based inline baggage screening solutions.
GE’s CTX 9000s at Abu Dhabi International Airport will provide real-time explosives detection capability and offer the potential for lower false alarm rates, which can translate to lower operational costs as a result of a reduction in bag diversions for manual screening. Because the CTX 9000 is integrated with the baggage handling system (BHS), checked bags can proceed smoothly from passenger check-in to sorting, speeding overall system throughput, which can help reduce the customer’s per-bag screening cost and improve flow while also expediting the screening process.
"Abu Dhabi International Airport is one of the highest volume airports in the Middle East,” said Dennis Cooke, president and CEO, GE Security’s Homeland Protection business. “Adoption of our advanced technology CTX EDS underscores the airport’s commitment to ensuring its travelers benefit from the latest and most effective security technologies. It also reflects a growing global trend toward the adoption of CT-based EDS as the solution of choice for checked bag screening.”
“Safety is our number one priority. Abu Dhabi Airports Company always seeks to work with best-in-class suppliers to help us deliver our commitment to customers that the airport will be safe and secure,” said Andrew Jones, head of corporate communications at Abu Dhabi Airports Company.
The most widely deployed inline checked baggage explosives screening solution, the CTX 9000 DSi is the flagship of GE Security’s multi-generational product plan for EDS. The CTX 9000 family of EDS products offers the highest operational throughput among explosives detection systems designed for BHS integration. With a meter-wide conveyor belt and large tunnel opening that can accommodate both large and standard-size bags, the CTX 9000 can represent an excellent investment for high-volume airport environments.
The Abu Dhabi Airport purchase contract was secured with the assistance of GE Security’s Homeland Protection distributor in the United Arab Emirates, International Aeradio Emirates LLC (IAL), a subsidiary of United Kingdom-based SERCO Group plc, one of the world’s leading service companies. IAL will also participate in deploying and providing life-cycle support for these CTX systems.
