QuadraMed Announces Winners of 2008 “QUEST Awards”
Company honors four hospitals for exceptional use of technology to improve healthcare
RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--QuadraMed (NASDAQ:QDHC) today announced the winners of its 2008 “QUEST Awards” program: Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center, Princeton HealthCare System, Riverview Hospital and Frederick Memorial Healthcare System. The annual awards recognize hospitals for their innovative and impressive use of QuadraMed solutions and services in four categories—Revenue Cycle Improvement, Efficiency Improvement, Patient Safety Improvement, and Nursing Care Delivery Improvement.
“We applaud this year’s winners for striving to maximize clinical and operational efficiencies across their enterprises by deploying state-of-the art technologies,” said Keith Hagen, QuadraMed’s president and CEO. “Through a close technology partnership with QuadraMed, each QUEST Award winner leverages quality care into exceptional financial outcomes.”
The winners, who were announced and given a plaque acknowledging the honor at the 2008 QuadraMed User Group Conference held in Baltimore, Md., will each receive a $5,000 grant. QuadraMed received 23 applications for the QUEST Awards.
Pattie A Clay Regional Medical Center won the Revenue Cycle Improvement Award. By using QuadraMed Revenue Cycle Solutions and reengineering billing processes, the 105-bed hospital in Richmond, Ky., boosted cash flow by 5.6 percent in 2007 and projects that collections will rise 6.3% in 2008. QuadraMed applications have helped the provider process payments faster and immediately review and qualify self-pay patients, if eligible, for charity care. The Pattie A. Clay facility also reduced days in accounts receivable (AR) from 53 days in 2006 to 48 days in 2007. As of April 2008, the facility had maintained AR days at 48.
In the Efficiency Improvement category, Princeton (N.J.) Healthcare System was honored for realizing outstanding efficiencies in the registration of inpatient, outpatient and emergency department (ED) patients by implementing several QuadraMed applications, including QuadraMed Registration, a comprehensive ADT system. As a result, patient satisfaction has improved dramatically, as measured by Press Ganey scores. For instance, outpatient registration scores rose from the 32nd percentile to the 90th percentile. The following changes demonstrate the dramatic improvement: length of the registration process decreased by 68 percent; patient wait times dropped 69 percent; days in AR decreased 30 percent; and cash collections increased 20 percent.
Riverview Hospital, Noblesville, Ind., earned the Patient Safety Improvement award for customizing a skin/wound assessment tool embedded in QuadraMed CPR to identify when pressure ulcers or bedsores are present on admission (POA). This POA indicator is vital to reimbursement because effective Oct. 1, 2008, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will not reimburse hospitals for the extra cost of treating eight conditions that patients acquire during their hospitalization, including bedsores. Since rolling out the tool, Riverview nurses have been able to track wounds more consistently and implement preventative care measures sooner.
Frederick (Md.) Memorial Healthcare System received the Nursing Care Delivery Improvement Award for implementing QuadraMed’s AcuityPlus Emerge Methodology. As a tool for classification of patients and determination of their acuity at discharge, the AcuityPlus Emerge Methodology also generates a charge for patients treated in the emergency department. This procedure replaced a subjective determination of charges and aligns the charge with the patient’s acuity. Frederick Memorial’s ED has realized an increase in revenue since implementing this charging procedure; there are no missing charges and the level of charges is consistent.
Each QUEST Award entrant submitted a detailed application describing its achievements, business issues, objectives, approach and the final results achieved using QuadraMed products. Each QUEST Award category was judged by separate panels comprised of six independent healthcare information technology experts.
