QuickPlay Media Powers First Video Service for Cricket Communications
Video Service Includes Advanced Personalization Features to Enhance the Viewing Experience and Stimulate Adoption
TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--QuickPlay Media, the premier provider of mobile TV and video solutions, today announced that Cricket Communications, Inc, a subsidiary of Leap Wireless International, Inc, is leveraging its OpenVideoTM media management platform to power its new Cricket video service for its customers. Cricket’s video service includes a wide variety of popular content including music videos, sports, comedy, entertainment, animation, as well as specific items targeted to Hispanic audiences.
“Cricket is well known as a fast growing and innovative company with a very unique and diverse customer base,” said Wayne Purboo, president and CEO, QuickPlay Media. “In a very competitive and rapidly changing market, our mobile video solution enables Cricket to quickly roll out a highly personalized mobile video service that will easily scale and evolve to meet the changing demands of its customers.”
The new video download offers customers unlimited video viewing as a $5 a month add-on to Cricket’s monthly rate plans.
“The way consumers view the mobile phone has changed dramatically, with a growing number of customers looking to the third screen as a resource for content, including video,” said Larry Atwell, director of product development for Cricket. “QuickPlay’s innovative features, especially their advanced personalization capabilities and content targeted to our highly diverse customer base, are key to providing Cricket customers with a great user experience and a variety of relevant content, be it music videos, sporting events or entertainment.”
Key features of the Cricket video download service include:
- Enhanced Discovery: Enhanced discovery features five top-level categories, allowing customers to more easily sift through the large content library, in addition to searching by content name or description.
- Advanced Personalization: Personalized offerings include “Top Videos,” as determined by the total number of downloads, “What’s Hot,” as selected by Cricket, and “We Recommend,” which are based on either previous downloads or current selections. These Web 2.0 features enable customers to easily find individual selections that are not only popular but also meet their specific interests.
- Universal Search and Preview: Adoption stimulation features include universal content browsing, which allows all Cricket customers to browse the portal and view video categories and clip listings, and preview, which lets non-subscribers with video-enabled devices trial the service and then prompts each to become a subscriber. Together, these two features allow customers to “test drive” the Cricket service and experience mobile video firsthand before making a more firm commitment.
