SMC 10- and 1-Gigabit Network Switches Support IBM’s New Efficiency-Focused Internet Scale Computing Solution
SMC Switches Compatible with IBM iDataPlex Systems Offer Added Features, Efficiency, Reliability and Overall Value
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SMC® Networks (www.smc.com) today announced its 10-Gigabit and 1-Gigabit Ethernet switches will be offered as components in IBM’s new iDataPlex, an inexpensive, custom-configured rack system featuring design innovations in cooling and efficiency to address Web 2.0 companies’ needs. SMC’s TigerSwitch™ 10G SMC8708L2 Standalone 8-port 10G managed L2 switch—an all-fiberoptic XFP, high-performance 10G core aggregator switch—and the SMC8848M TigerStack™ II 10/100/1000 stackable 48-Port 10/100/1000 managed switch with 4 Gigabit combo ports and 2 optional 10G uplinks will be offered as network management options for IBM iDataPlex in Web 2.0 data centers, high-performance clusters and large corporate data centers.
“We’re excited to be a part of IBM’s next-generation, revolutionary ‘Green-focused’ platform that delivers superior return on investment,” said Keith Alexis, SMC Networks’ Vice President of Channel and Enterprise Sales for the Americas. “To be able to work with IBM on a project designed to move the mega data centers of the future to greater power efficiency, while increasing capacity and performance, is a testimony to the work we’ve been doing.”
“iDataPlex is designed for flexibility, in that it will be custom configured by IBM and arrive to clients fully integrated and ready to run from the factory. SMC complements this as its TigerSwitch solutions help bring flexibility to the datacenter,” said Jim Gargan, VP of Modular Systems, IBM Systems and Technology Group. “IBM is looking to technology leaders like SMC to build an ecosystem of ready-to-use technologies for iDataPlex that will add value for our clients.”
