General Components Appoints Dr. James Walker as Chief Scientist

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 2005--General Components, Inc. (GCI) (OTCBB: GCPO) has appointed Dr. James Walker as its Chief Scientist and member of its board of directors. Dr. James Walker is an acknowledged leader and innovator in the development of plastic optical fiber (POF). Dr. Walker is the founder and chairman of the board of directors of Nanoptics, Inc. He brings to GCI his deep industry experience and his solid academic achievement at Harvard University, Fermi National Laboratory, CERN, Rutherford Lab, Weizmann Institute and the University of Florida. As an entrepreneur, he has received small business innovation research funding from the Federal Government to develop new high technology products. He served on the Nobel Prize Nominating Group, was the recipient of John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship and has been a member of Review Committees at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Walker has published more than 100 professional articles on high energy physics, plastic fiber optical communications, medical sensors and radiology. He has made seminal contributions in the field of manufacturing methods of novel POFs. He is also the author of more than 20 patents.
