Gateway Announces ''Show Your Spots!'' Video Contest Winner
Daredevil from Elk Grove, Calif. Brands Himself With a Gateway Tattoo
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Gateway, Inc. today named Matt Harris, who astonished the Gateway judging panel by tattooing his belly with a large Gateway logo and signature cow, as the first ever “Show Your Spots” contest winner. Kicked off three months ago, this contest was open to thrill-seeking technology lovers willing to perform and film a crazy stunt to win Gateway’s flagship gaming system.
The video, “Cow Tattoo for Gateway,” was awarded by a panel of Gateway employees for having the highest total scores in creativity, humor, daringness and average daily number of video views as reported by YouTube. “We were blown away by the ingenuity exhibited in all of the entries,” said John Costello, Gateway’s vice president of marketing. “Our employees were incredibly impressed with Matt Harris’ determination to win a Gateway PC. His stunt totally exceeded our expectations for daringness and is a testament to how far people are willing to go to get our award-winning system.”
The 38 submissions varied in topic and scope from animated video to full-blown stunts, from the outrageous to the downright shocking. Stunts not only included two separate contestants who tattooed a body part with the Gateway logo, but a cattle rancher who slid through a pile of manure and another who ate something unmentionable. A persistent teen from New Hampshire submitted multiple entries, displaying talents for hot sauce drinking and swimming in the freezing Atlantic Ocean in the dead of winter.
Contestants covered a wide range of demographics from teenage gamers to grandmothers to professional graphic designers. The entrants live in states ranging from Hawaii, New Hampshire and everywhere in between.
In addition to the grand prize, the most humorous, most creative and most daring videos were also awarded.
