WASHINGTON--()--Bernice K. McIntyre, Director, Regulatory Matters, Office of General Counsel for Washington Gas Light Company, was recently appointed by Mayor Adrian M. Fenty to serve on the D.C. Sustainable Energy Utility (SEU) Advisory Board as the representative from Washington Gas.
“This will be an important board in the city that will address issues of particular interest to Washington Gas customers, shareholders and employees. I am delighted to represent Washington Gas on this board.”
Established by the Clean and Affordable Energy Act of 2008, the board will make recommendations to the Mayor of the District of Columbia and the District of Columbia’s Department of Energy and will help establish, guide and monitor the SEU in the District. The SEU will develop, coordinate and provide sustainable energy use in the District. McIntyre will serve as one of 13 members of the SEU Advisory Board for a term of three years.

An eight-year employee of Washington Gas, McIntyre is a member of the Virginia Corporate Counsel Bar, the Massachusetts Bar and the District of Columbia Bar as well as United States District Court Bar for Massachusetts. She was President and founder of B.K. McIntyre & Associates, Inc. which provided regulatory and public policy consulting to utility and telecommunications companies nationwide. Previously, she served as senior manager for utility practice at Arthur D. Little, Inc., and from 1992 through 1993 was a member of the Energy and Environment transition team for then President-elect Bill Clinton and Vice President-elect Al Gore. In 1983, McIntyre was appointed by the Governor as commissioner of the Massachusetts Public Utilities Commission, and in 1987 was appointed chairperson of the commission (the first African-American and woman to be appointed).
She is a graduate of Oberlin College with a Bachelors of Arts degree in English and received her Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law.
