CarrierPoint provides Web-based applications that facilitate the management of freight movements within a shippers back office. With TransCore's purchase of CarrierPoint assets, TransCore now provides shipper customers an integrated TMS package tailored to their specific business processes: eRFQ (electronic request for quote), contract management, shipment rating, dispatch, scheduling, freight payment, status tracking, delivery confirmation, dock scheduling, analysis reports and planned collaboration. Today, TransCore provides TMS software packages for carriers and intermediaries and the CarrierPoint addition will complement these systems.
“As TransCore achieves it vision of providing various software solutions that address the entire freight lifecycle, it is important that we recognize carriers, intermediaries and shippers have different needs”
"As TransCore achieves it vision of providing various software solutions that address the entire freight lifecycle, it is important that we recognize carriers, intermediaries and shippers have different needs," said Joel McGinley, senior vice president of TransCore. "By adding CarrierPoint, we provide access to more shippers and loads for our intermediary and carrier customers. Our shipper customers now have a leading TMS package that will integrate with the TransCore tools they use today."
CarrierPoint's suite of Web-based transportation management software has proven to streamline the costs and labor involved in transportation execution, and has served customers as a springboard into more collaborative transportation management. CarrierPoint's ability to manage contract compliance has yielded some customers as much as 14 percent savings in their overall transportation costs.
"As the CarrierPoint solution is now supported by a large, profitable organization, our customers can be confident that it will be around for the long haul," said John Thomson, CarrierPoint's president. "Financial stability has become an important and primary differentiator among logistics software suppliers."
CarrierPoint's software is typically deployed via the Internet on a subscription basis and can be customized for specific customer business processes. Through the proprietary open message systems interface (OMSI), CarrierPoint's software integrates securely and easily with customers' current technology tools (e.g. EDI), upholding previous information-technology investments.
The CarrierPoint service and brand will continue. TransCore has hired certain CarrierPoint employees and will be transitioning operations to TransCore's Norcross, Ga., office.
