High-Goal Polo Gallops Back to Greenwich for Two Final Matches of 2014 Season
Sunday Aug. 31st and Sept. 7th Matches Are Open to the Public
GREENWICH, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--High-goal polo is set to return to Greenwich Polo Club for the final two matches of the 2014 polo season on August 31st and September 7th. Both games are open to the public and will also feature VIP events.
On August 31, 2014, the Los Machitos polo team (Ron Dagger, Nick Manifold, Joaquin Panelo and Naco Taverna) will face off against the Melody Capital polo team (Cesar Gueikian, Mariano Aguerre, Kris Kampsen and Tommy Alberdi). The charity, Virginia's House of Hope, will host its “Polo Benefit for Hope” at noon. VIP guests will be treated to an open bar featuring specialty summer cocktails, a tasting event, a live jazz band and a silent auction. Proceeds of the event will benefit children and families in need throughout the Tri-State area.
Half-time will feature a special “stomping of the divots” – a polo tradition where spectators help replace mounds of earth that are torn up by the horses hooves – with guests searching for a hidden champagne cork on the field. The lucky winner who finds the cork will receive a prize. Following the match, a trophy presentation will be held for the players and will feature Most Valuable Player and Winning Team trophies sponsored by Bogner and Casablanca. A Best Polo Pony blanket will be awarded to the best horse of the match by Casablanca.
To gain entry to the match, guests may purchase tickets to the Virginia’s House of Hope event or purchase general admission tickets at the gate for $40 per car. Gates will open at noon for Virginia’s House of Hope guests, general entry at 1:00 p.m. with the match beginning at 3pm. The field address is 1 Hurlingham Drive, Greenwich, CT 06831.
On Sunday, September 7th Royal Salute will host its annual 26-goal USPA Royal Salute Jubilee Cup. The prestigious tournament will feature a coveted roster of the world’s best high-goal polo players and Royal Salute will host an invitation-only event. Polo fans can purchase general admission tickets at the gate and picnic or tailgate on the grounds. Gates will open at 1:00 p.m. with the match beginning at 3:00 p.m.
