Citizens Medical Center Chooses McKesson

Unifying dissimilar billing platforms will boost revenues, efficiency

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--McKesson Business Performance Services (McKesson) has been selected to optimize revenue cycle management for Citizens Medical Professional, the employed physician group of Citizens Medical Center, a 344-bed acute care hospital in Victoria, Texas.

“McKesson is committed to helping rural providers overcome these and other challenges by ensuring optimized revenue cycle management and working with providers to develop creative, long-term operational solutions. We look forward to partnering with Citizen’s Medical Center to ensure the highest quality care for residents of South Texas.”

McKesson will take responsibility for creating a unified billing and reporting platform to support the 19 primary care physicians and specialists of Citizens Medical Professional. McKesson will provide coding, claims, billing, denial management and collections services. The agreement is expected to improve financial performance and facilitate comprehensive management reporting.

Stephen Thames, Citizens’ chief executive officer, said McKesson was chosen on the strength of its experience, reputation and ability to provide an end-to-end revenue cycle management solution.

“We needed to consolidate disparate billing platforms to improve financial performance and operational transparency, and McKesson stepped up with a solution that will not only enhance efficiency but will also give us unprecedented insight into productivity, case mix and other key metrics,” Thames said. “We are excited about the multiple ways McKesson can help us achieve our vision of an integrated, quality-driven delivery system.”

Thames added that McKesson’s comprehensive reporting, along with ongoing consulting services provided by McKesson experts, will strengthen the groups strategic planning. McKesson will also provide documentation education in preparation for the coming October 2015 transition to the ICD-10 code set.

Pat Leonard, president of McKesson Business Performance Services, said small-town and rural providers face unique challenges in adapting to the current demands of healthcare.

“The difficulties of operating effectively and profitability in healthcare today are exacerbated in rural areas due to fewer economic resources, staffing difficulties and lower patient volumes,” Leonard said. “McKesson is committed to helping rural providers overcome these and other challenges by ensuring optimized revenue cycle management and working with providers to develop creative, long-term operational solutions. We look forward to partnering with Citizen’s Medical Center to ensure the highest quality care for residents of South Texas.”
