MemorialCare Rehabilitation Institute at Long Beach Memorial Awarded Exemplary Three-Year CARF Accreditation
LONG BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) announced that the MemorialCare Rehabilitation Institute at Long Beach Memorial has been accredited for a period of three years for its inpatient rehabilitation program.
“We will use the CARF standards as a guide to excellence as we continue to provide a great patient experience and transition back to the community.”
The latest exemplary accreditation is the second consecutive Three-Year Accreditation that the international accrediting body, CARF, has awarded to Long Beach Memorial. The MemorialCare Rehabilitation Institute received this accreditation in recognition of its commitment to quality improvement by meeting internationally recognized standards in rehabilitation services.
This accreditation decision represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows the organization’s substantial conformance to the CARF standards. An organization receiving a Three-Year Accreditation has put itself through a rigorous peer review process. It has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit its commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, accountable and of the highest quality.
"The MemorialCare Rehabilitation Institute at Long Beach Memorial’s mission is to help patients recover from acute neurological conditions, traumatic injuries or debilitating illnesses and regain quality of life and independence," says Jason Koh, D.O., medical director, MemorialCare Rehabilitation Institute, Long Beach Memorial. "This accreditation is a demonstration of our care team’s dedication to quality improvement and constant focus on delivering the best patient and family centered care."
An update to the clinical model in 2009 focused on developing innovative patient and family centered care, which led to the creation of the “vertical therapy team.” This team follows each patient through the continuum of care, limiting the number of different therapists that care for the patient. The vertical therapy team is equipped with unique skills to match the needs of each patient, regardless of where they are in the treatment continuum. This change provided the MemorialCare Rehabilitation Institute at Long Beach Memorial with a long range blueprint to become a rehabilitation leader through innovative care delivery and vastly improved the continuity of care, patient satisfaction and functional outcomes.
Surveyors recognized the dedication to continuous performance improvement with visible leaders at all levels of the organization. The surveyors were complimentary of the dynamic multi-disciplinary collaboration exhibited by all care team members and their passion for providing the best care.
"Long Beach Memorial is honored to receive this exemplary accreditation because it embraces the values of accountability and responsibility to our mission, patients and care teams at the hospital," says Pamela Chevreaux, vice president, ambulatory services, Long Beach Memorial. "We will use the CARF standards as a guide to excellence as we continue to provide a great patient experience and transition back to the community."
