ECM systems critical to business operations, majority don’t have needed performance insight
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The business-criticality of enterprise content management applications is increasing, with 80 percent believing they are just as critical as transactional systems, according to a new survey sponsored by Reveille Software™. Executed by AIIM to a cross-section of ECM professionals, the survey reveals how content systems are vital in today’s business and how IT departments are measuring service levels.

“The survey exposed a major gap in the management of ECM applications,” said Dave Gibson, COO of Reveille. “Organizations recognize that these applications are critical to their business operations and failure or downtime can have significant cost implications, however there is little being done to optimize the applications and get ahead of potential issues.”
Key survey findings include:
- The majority, 57 percent, have nowhere near the same performance information about their content systems as they do for transactional systems.
- More than 40 percent noted a system outage or slowdown would cause serious disruption within 1 hour; and 29 percent admitted “it was down to luck that they had not had a major content system outage”.
- For the nearly 50 percent that could make an estimate of downtime costs in the past twelve months, half said more than $50,000.
- Only 32 percent have specific, measured SLAs for uptime.
