CampusMD Brings the Student Health Center Online - Peak Campus Management Residents Now Have 24/7 Access to Doctor Care
Service makes it easy for students living off campus to get fast, affordable healthcare
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Every college student knows where the campus health center is. But for students living off campus, getting there can be a hassle, especially when they’re sick. Peak Campus Management, a leading manager in collegiate housing and the nation’s second largest privately-held student housing management company, has partnered with CampusMD to offer an online health center to its resident students. CampusMD will provide 24/7 video access to board-certified doctors who can diagnose and treat hundreds of non-emergency illnesses and conditions in real time, providing immediate access to care right from their apartments.
“Peak Campus realized that when students get sick away from home, they need convenient and quick access to medical care”
CampusMD, part of Bethesda, MD-based Access Health Group, brings doctor care exclusively to the higher education market. As CampusMD subscribers, Peak Campus residents will be able to connect with a board certified physician and receive a diagnosis from anywhere, anytime through an iPad, iPhone, or Android mobile device, or from any computer with a webcam. Doctors are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They diagnose, treat, prescribe medication, and even provide notes for professors. This portable subscription service is accessible during domestic US travel or when students are home on breaks.
“Peak Campus realized that when students get sick away from home, they need convenient and quick access to medical care,” said Bob Clark, Peak Campus Management’s President. “We are thrilled to continue to evolve our world class management platform by welcoming an online health center that will allow our residents to be just a click away from a video consultation with a physician whenever they need one.”
While many college campuses have student health centers, few offer around-the-clock care or weekend hours. Many do not have doctors on staff, and an increasing number are no longer offering medical care to students, citing unmanageable costs. This decline in services has created a healthcare gap for the collegiate population, yet the need for care remains. The American College Health Association reports that more than 50% of students were diagnosed or treated by a health professional for one or more illnesses in the preceding 12 months, and that a variety of illness-related factors were responsible for students dropping a class, stopping work on a major research project, or earning a lower grade. Earlier intervention can reduce the duration and severity of many illnesses, helping students get back to class more quickly.
“Technology is changing the landscape of student healthcare,” said Asher Epstein, CampusMD’s COO. “Students rely on it and are comfortable conducting their lives online. Seeing a doctor by video in real time on their devices is convenient and cost-effective. We’re delighted to partner with Peak Campus to enhance healthcare options for their residents. We believe that our service will make a real difference in the students’ lives and will give parents peace of mind at a very affordable cost.”
Peak Campus launched the service on August 18, 2014.
