Maryland Fire/EMS Agency Chooses McKesson

Deal includes new patient reporting system implementation, Toughbooks®, advanced reporting

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department, based in Largo, Maryland, has selected McKesson Business Performance Services (McKesson) to provide an end-to-end, technology-based revenue cycle solution for enhanced collections, better operational reporting and improved regulatory compliance.

McKesson will be responsible for coding, claims and denial management, and also will oversee the department’s transition to a new electronic patient care reporting (EPCR) system. The advanced platform is capable of conveying incident data to the state of Maryland, and will connect with 100 mobile tablets, or Toughbooks®, supplied by McKesson for capturing patient care services information in the field.

Prince George’s County operates a blended Fire/EMS department made up of both professionals and volunteers serving urban and rural areas. As a result, McKesson will generate customized activity reports to help the county allocate revenue among the department’s seven battalions and 48 stations.

McKesson will also provide a full-time, on-site professional to assist with technology training and system maintenance. In addition, McKesson EMS revenue specialists will offer ongoing consulting services focused on improving the financial performance of the department’s billing operation.

Prince George’s County has a population of about 880,000 and is located in southern Maryland adjacent to the District of Columbia. The Fire/EMS department responded to more than 130,000 service calls last year across a coverage area of approximately 500 square miles.

In addition, he said, McKesson was the only vendor capable of providing a complete, end-to-end technology solution, and the only one able to produce the complex service reports required for revenue distribution.
