Blank Rome Welcomes Two Partners in Los Angeles, Expanding Class Action Capabilities
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that Joshua Briones and Ana Tagvoryan joined the Firm as partners in the Corporate Litigation practice. Together they bring more than 20 years of complex commercial litigation experience to the Firm, with an emphasis on consumer class action defense. Both are based in the Firm’s Los Angeles office.
“Blank Rome has been expanding in many exciting ways”
“We are thrilled to welcome Joshua and Ana to Blank Rome,” said Alan J. Hoffman, Chairman and Managing Partner. “Class action lawsuits are on the rise in any industry that collects consumer data, from call recording matters to data breach suits. Over the past year, we have seen a significant rise in plaintiffs’ counsel filing class actions across the country that allege violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. Joshua and Ana’s deep knowledge and experience in this area will further strengthen our litigation capabilities in defending clients against such actions.”
Mr. Briones and Ms. Tagvoryan were previously in the litigation group at DLA Piper. They have nationwide experience in handling privacy class actions, recently achieving victory for Sabre, Inc. in a putative class action brought by a passenger of Hawaiian Airlines alleging receipt of unsolicited texts messages. They also handle trademark and other complex commercial litigation, with extensive experience with e-discovery and social media issues in the law, and often counsel clients with respect to social media use, social media policies, privacy terms and conditions, and data collection practices. In 2013, the American Bar Association published their book, Social Media as Evidence: Cases, Practice Pointers, and Techniques.
“As our Los Angeles office continues its exciting expansion, we are pleased to welcome Joshua and Ana to the growing team,” said Gregory M. Bordo, Los Angeles Office Managing Partner. “There is a great strategic fit for them at Blank Rome, particularly as our financial services industry team is seeing heightened concern among its clients regarding compliance and liability in consumer data and online marketing. And their collective litigation experience lends an important dimension to our cybersecurity and data privacy practice. We are excited for them to ramp up and engage with our clients and our global platform in these key, emerging areas.”
“Blank Rome has been expanding in many exciting ways,” noted Ms. Tagvoryan. “Consumer class action defense is a key area for development and we’re eager to play an important role in the litigation practice’s growth. Beyond litigation, I am very impressed with the Firm’s pro bono initiatives and commitment to diversity, particularly with respect to women lawyers, and look forward to participating in these important endeavors as well.”
Mr. Briones continued, “Blank Rome is an established Firm with a strong litigation platform that lends itself to entrepreneurial opportunities. We look forward to building a robust, progressive practice along with our new, distinguished colleagues.”
Mr. Briones earned his LL.M. from New York University School of Law, his J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law, and his B.A. from San Diego State University. He served as a 2013 Fellow to the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and was President (2012) and Past Vice President (2011) of the UCLA School of Law Alumni Board of Directors. Furthermore, Mr. Briones has served as an adjunct professor of law at the Universidad Panamericana, México City, and as a lecturer at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (“ITAM”), México City.
Ms. Tagvoryan earned her J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law and her B.A. from Loyola Marymount University. She is a member of the Armenian Bar Association and the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles. She is the founder of MAMAs LA (“Mother Attorneys Mentoring Association”), a family-friendly networking and support organization focused on the distinct issues women face while toggling the dual role of mother and attorney, including work-life balance, diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and women’s advancement.
