Ciris Energy Awarded Second Underground Injection and Microbial Conversion Permits in Wyoming
CENTENNIAL, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ciris Energy is pleased to announce that the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) issued Underground Injection Control Permit #13-018 to Ciris. The 10 year permit allows for injections into an underground coal seam to enhance and restore naturally occurring methane generation. The permit for this project located in Campbell County, Wyoming, requires extensive monitoring both during and after injection operations. The permit also requires Ciris to maintain the water quality within the coal seam at existing quality levels. Further, on May 13, 2014, the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission approved docket #500-2014, granting Ciris final approval for this microbial conversion project. Ciris Energy is the only company in the world fully permitted for continuous injection and circulation to restore microbial conversion of coal and produce clean burning natural gas.
“We are grateful to the Wyoming DEQ and Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission for their hard work and thoroughness during this permitting process”
“We are grateful to the Wyoming DEQ and Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission for their hard work and thoroughness during this permitting process,” said Greg Jenkins, CEO of Ciris Energy. “The requirements for careful monitoring and maintenance of water quality reflect Ciris Energy’s commitment to environmentally sound practices.” Jenkins went on to say, “Developing new forms of coal use are essential economically, environmentally, and politically. With its processes, Ciris is a leader in significantly enhancing the value and environmental aspects of using low rank coals.”
This permit allows for Ciris Energy’s second microbial conversion project in Wyoming. Findings from these projects, combined with the latest research from their lab will further develop the in situ bioconversion process of coal. Ciris Energy is the first to implement the process allowed pursuant to this new permit.
About Ciris Energy, Inc.
Ciris Energy, Inc., a private company founded in 2007 and headquartered in Centennial, Colorado, USA, is focused on enhanced natural gas production from low rank coals worldwide. Ciris is developing two independent technologies. The first, ISBC (In-situ Bioconversion process), is a natural process that activates indigenous microbes in coal seams. The second, ESBC (Ex-situ Bioconversion process), combines a thermochemical technology with microbial bioconversion to produce chemicals and methane from mined coal. Ciris’ production processes are both low cost and environmentally friendly. By utilizing its low cost proprietary technologies on abundant low rank coals, Ciris Energy is changing the economic value of this global resource.
