Skillz Players Win $1,000,000 Playing Casual Mobile Games
Skillz pays out more than $10,000 everyday in prizes
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Skillz (www.skillz.com), the world’s premier cash competition platform for mobile games, announced that Skillz players have now won over $1 million in prizes. Skillz allows players to compete against each other in their favorite Android and iOS games for as little as $.60 per match, with prizes that range from $1 to $1,000.
“No longer do you have to be a hardcore gamer to win money playing video games. With Skillz, that opportunity exists right in your pocket where you can play anytime, anywhere.”
Traditionally, competitive video-gaming (known as eSports) has been limited to physical arenas with cash prizes only accessible to hardcore professional gamers. Skillz opens up eSports competitions to everyone by facilitating more than 50,000 micro-competitions every day on mobile devices. The company reported that it currently pays out over $10,000 in daily prizes and that the average Skillz player competes in over four matches per day across a variety of Skillz-enabled games.
“While video games are now included in the ESPN X Games and the United States government has started granting work visas to competitive gamers, eSports competitions are still not broadly accessible. But like skateboarding, football, or any other offline sport, we believe that eSports should be available to everyone, not just a select few,” said Andrew Paradise, Founder and CEO of Skillz. “No longer do you have to be a hardcore gamer to win money playing video games. With Skillz, that opportunity exists right in your pocket where you can play anytime, anywhere.”
Currently, Skillz is the exclusive partner of more than 300 game studios representing more than 2,700 mobile titles. To date, Skillz has launched over 150 games on the App Store, with more games going live every day.

Skillz is the first company in the world to enable cash competitions in mobile games. Skillz believes in making mobile games more fun for players while making game creation more lucrative for developers. Skillz enables new direct revenue for game developers, while enhancing rather than interrupting the gamer experience. In skill-based games, a player's ability rather than luck determines the outcome of the game, making real money competition legal across 37 states and roughly 75% of the world. Founded in 2012, the company has offices in San Francisco and Boston. Skillz has raised $10.3M in funding led by Atlas Venture and launched its proprietary platform in April 2013.
