Introducing Healthcare Compensation News, From Payers & Providers Publishing and MCOL
Highest-Paid Standalone Hospital CEO In Tri-State Area Serves Poorest Congressional District In U.S.
BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Steven Safyer of Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx is the highest-paid standalone hospital CEO in the Tri-State region of New York, Connecticut and New Jersey. That's according to the inaugural issue of Healthcare Compensation News, a new publication by Payers & Providers Publishing and MCOL. The monthly newsletter follows healthcare compensation trends, with a focus on hospital pay. However, the compensation of health plans, lobbying groups, clinics and other facets of healthcare delivery will be examined as well. Each issue will focus on a specific geographical region of the U.S., with the Tri-State area detailed in the inaugural issue. The pay of more than 600 C-suite level hospital executives was examined and analyzed for the inaugural issue.
“C-suite compensation is a tremendously interesting and controversial area of healthcare delivery, and I think it is about time a publication focuses on it”
According to Healthcare Compensation News, Montefiore's campus is literally steps from New York's 16th Congressional District, the poorest in the United States, and no doubt the driver of the hundreds of millions of dollars of charity care provided by the hospital each year. In addition to 2011 total compensation that topped $5 million, Dr. Safyer is the only not-for-profit hospital CEO in the Tri-State area who is furnished with a car and driver for business and incidental use. Such benefits will also be detailed in each issue as part of a feature known as the Perk File.
“C-suite compensation is a tremendously interesting and controversial area of healthcare delivery, and I think it is about time a publication focuses on it,” said Ron Shinkman, the editor of Healthcare Compensation News. A longtime healthcare business journalist, Shinkman also edits Payers & Providers' California edition.
