6th Annual National Employee Wellness Month Challenge Participants Achieve 670 Times More Steps than 2014 World Cup Players Expected To Take
Alliant Energy and Nypro Packaging Outpace the Competition, Win the National Employee Wellness Month Annual Challenge
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Virgin Pulse today announced that more than 200 companies and 70,000 employees participated in the sixth annual National Employee Wellness Month, demonstrating their commitment to employee health and well-being. Many participants competed in a three week step challenge, celebrating National Employee Wellness Month and showing their commitment to a healthy work culture. Combined, the challenge participants took nearly 12 billion steps, each averaging nearly 9,000 steps each per day – almost 670 times the total number of steps that will be taken in the 2014 World Cup!

The challenge put participants toe-to-toe, competing with other companies in the spirit of health to see which could rack up the most steps. Congratulations to this year’s winners, Alliant Energy in the Health Stars division and two-time winner Nypro Packaging in the Wellness Warriors division. Each company receives a $1,000 donation to the charity of their choice.

Created in 2009 by Virgin Pulse in partnership with the Strategies to Overcome and Prevent (STOP) Obesity Alliance, National Employee Wellness Month is sponsored by these organizations along with the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease and WorldatWork. The initiative helps business leaders learn how companies successfully engage employees in healthy lifestyles. It showcases how companies can support employees by creating healthy cultures, improving their health and well-being while lowering healthcare costs and driving engagement. In conjunction with National Employee Wellness Month, employees and employers completed a survey examining how investing in employee’s well-being helps organizations drive engagement, company culture and recruiting.
