RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Software AG (Frankfurt TecDAX: SOW) today announced that Software AG employees will run in the Baltimore Marathon on October 18, 2014 to benefit Habitat for Humanity’s Chesapeake, Md. chapter. 75 Software AG employees from the company’s Reston, Va. headquarters along with their family and friends have teamed up to run the marathon with a goal of raising $25,000 for Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake. Proceeds raised will go toward Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to build affordable housing and opportunities for local, working families in Central Maryland.
“We believe companies that recognize their role as local citizens are better at what they do”
“We believe companies that recognize their role as local citizens are better at what they do,” said Jay Johnson, President and CEO, Software AG North America. “At Software AG, we are dedicated to making our community a better place to live, and we couldn’t think of a better organization to partner with than Habitat for Humanity to help make that happen.”
The Baltimore Marathon, which is part of the Baltimore Running Festival Race Day, features a course that travels through the many diverse neighborhoods of Baltimore, including the scenic Inner Harbor waterfront area, historic Federal Hill and charming Fells Point, all of which are located in the Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake’s jurisdiction. The Chesapeake chapter, which was established in 1982, serves Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Howard counties and Baltimore City.
“We are incredibly grateful to see local companies, like Software AG, bring people together to serve our larger community,” said Mike Posko, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake. “The reality is that a safe and secure home is not available to millions around the world, including many people here in Central Maryland. With the help of corporate donors and volunteers like the folks at Software AG, we are able to help more families find a safe place they can call home right here in our own neighborhoods.”
Additionally, Software AG will sponsor the free Runner Tracker for the Baltimore Running Festival, which allows friends and family to track a runner’s time, pace and expected finish time, as well as receive tracking messages on their mobile phone via text messaging, have an email sent to their inbox, or have posts placed on social media accounts.
