Colleen Oliver Joins the Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation as Executive Director
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation announced that Colleen Oliver will join the Foundation as its new Executive Director to lead the Foundation’s grantmaking in the areas of K-12 public education, supportive care, theatre enrichment and career training. Currently the Chief Academic Officer at the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, Oliver will assume her role in September 2014.
“As the Foundation becomes more involved in Washington state, we need to grow our team here. Colleen’s extensive experience working in this region and her proven ability to be a change agent make her an outstanding leader for our Foundation. We are pleased to welcome her”
Oliver has more than twenty-five years of experience in education, in a variety of leadership roles. As a senior officer at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, she managed effective teaching and school turnaround efforts in Chicago and Memphis. Most recently, Oliver has overseen significant student success within the Partnership Schools, a school network made up of 17 schools serving almost 16,000 Latino and African-American students, in three of Los Angeles’ most challenged neighborhoods. In the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years, the Partnership was the top-performing school district of its size in California in terms of student improvement.
“Colleen’s background in public education uniquely positions her to help the Foundation determine best strategies in one of our most important areas of interest – transforming education for students in low-income, high-need neighborhoods,” says Sheri Biller, President of The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation. “We look forward to replicating her organizational strategies to achieve the same kind of excellent results with our investments in supportive care, theatre and career training.”
“As the Foundation becomes more involved in Washington state, we need to grow our team here. Colleen’s extensive experience working in this region and her proven ability to be a change agent make her an outstanding leader for our Foundation. We are pleased to welcome her,” adds Les Biller, Founding Trustee of The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation.
“The Biller Family Foundation is taking on some of the country’s most pressing issues – health care reform, job training and education reform – and as a long-time admirer of their work, I am delighted to join them in their efforts to make an impact in all these areas,” says Oliver.
Oliver will take over from Sarah Lyding, who was the Foundation’s first Executive Director. With the Foundation since 2008, Lyding will transition to Director of K-12 Education and Theatre Arts Programs.
