Atigeo’s xPatterns Clinical Auto-Coding Automates up to 30% of the Billing Processes for Surgeon Network
Atigeo solves real-world prediction, analysis, and data-mining problems; at HIMSS14 demos advancements in clinical auto-coding solutions
ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Atigeo™, a compassionate technology company, today released details of how a regional network of surgeons was able to significantly improve billing efficiency and streamline numerous regulatory processes by utilizing Atigeo’s xPatterns 4.0 platform. In a case study being made available on the opening day of the healthcare industry’s largest exhibition and conference, HIMSS14 (Booth 5138), Atigeo outlines how physicians that used Atigeo’s xPatterns Clinical Auto-Coding™ (C.A.C.) solution automated 30 percent of their patient billings.
“The xPatterns platform breaks the mold of traditional coding software to bring exceptional intelligence to computer-assisted coding”
By delivering accuracies of CPT codes as high as 80 percent, E&M codes up to 78 percent and HCPCS codes up to 99 percent. Atigeo has enabled 30 percent of the group’s billings to be fully automated based only on a physician’s notes.
“The xPatterns platform breaks the mold of traditional coding software to bring exceptional intelligence to computer-assisted coding,” said David Talby, Atigeo Senior Vice President of Engineering. “xPatterns C.A.C. is an adaptive intelligent system—it can learn in real-time from coders and from historical data containing encounter notes and codes. As a result, the system is continuously evolving and becomes more accurate and efficient over time.”
For this network of 185+ surgeons, streamlining billing practices was vital, as it continuously adds service providers and patients. Additionally, the anticipated transition to the new, more exhaustive ICD-10 billing protocol would strain the network’s staff resources and add significant overhead costs. Atigeo’s big data analytics platform enabled them to develop and deploy a custom coding engine within 10 days, providing an immediate ROI and stabilizing staff resources.
The surgeon network’s system started with a total of 45,000 records that had 1,500 ICD-9 codes, 275 CPT codes and 50 HCPCS codes. Atigeo developed a customized engine to process all incoming codes and interface them with the existing billing software using the industry’s HL7 standard. By the end of its initial trial with xPatterns, the network’s direct-to-bill percentages were as high as 30 percent. This dramatically improved coder productivity while maintaining a high accuracy rate.
One of most unique features of xPatterns C.A.C. is the ability to read and correctly flag and file clinical encounter notes: physician notes, lab results or discharge records, as examples. These notes contain a vast amount of relevant information that often goes undetected in manual reviews. xPatterns C.A.C. is the ideal tool for analyzing electronic health records (EHRs), discovering all the relevant information within them, and correspondingly, generating accurate codes.
Visitors to HIMSS14 can arrange a demo of xPatterns 4.0 and the xPatterns C.A.C. suite of products at the conference or after the show by contacting Roman Frillarte, Senior Product Manager, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 425-749-5043.
Atigeo is a compassionate technology company for a wiser planet. Its big data analytics platform, xPatterns, operates either on premise or in the cloud to lower any company’s cost barrier for extracting knowledge from all available data, even with a legacy IT infrastructure. Enterprise-grade and developer-accessible, xPatterns makes data easier to leverage in its native state, greatly reducing the effort, expense and limitations of data architecture and analysis.
