York Hospital Signs Multi-Year IT Outsourcing Contract with McKesson Managed Services™
IT Management transition will help enable enhanced focus on patient care and satisfaction
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--York Hospital has begun a multi-year engagement with McKesson Managed Services for full healthcare IT Outsourcing (ITO) Services. McKesson provides resources and leadership to help York manage the rapid growth and complexity of its hospital IT systems, while addressing regulatory requirements and providing overall application support.
“Mounting regulatory pressures and reduced margins, coupled with the demand for 24x7x365 IT capabilities are creating an environment in which business can’t continue to run as usual”
With responsibility for day-to-day management of York’s IT operations, McKesson is using on-site and remote offerings to support both McKesson and third-party applications. One of the larger products to be supported includes McKesson’s contemporary, Microsoft®-based Paragon® Hospital Information System, which consists of over 40 clinical and financial modules. Services include application build/support/management, hospital help desk, infrastructure support, data center operations, network administration, desktop operations and project management/administration. All of these offerings are designed to help hospitals and health systems manage risk and improve the operational performance of their IT investments.
“After years of managing our IT department directly, we decided it was time to bring in experts who could focus exclusively on IT issues and enable us to allocate more resources to patient care,” said Robin LaBonte, chief financial officer, York. “We have been facing increased demands to improve quality and patient satisfaction, as well as profitability. McKesson’s healthcare IT expertise and dedicated support surpass our internal capabilities and are necessary as the role of technology in healthcare continues to increase.”
York is a 79-bed acute care hospital in York, Maine. It also operates 27 other facilities that include outpatient locations, physician practices and community health centers. By leveraging McKesson’s expertise and IT support, York can invest its resources toward achieving one of its key strategic initiatives outside the hospital: strengthening ties with the physician community and promoting increased adoption of CPOE and documentation within its community of hospitals.
“Mounting regulatory pressures and reduced margins, coupled with the demand for 24x7x365 IT capabilities are creating an environment in which business can’t continue to run as usual,” said Nimesh Shah, general manager and senior vice president, McKesson Managed Services. “McKesson’s ITO Services enable hospitals to focus resources on quality patient care, while providing innovation and helping to improve outcomes through the enhanced use of their IT investments.”
