More Than 75 Physicians from Long Beach Memorial & Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach Recognized by Leading Report
“2014 Southern California Super Doctors” Recognizes Top Five Percent of Physicians
LONG BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach announced today that 77 of its physicians have been recognized among the best in their fields by the 2014 Southern California Super Doctors report.
“Each year, more of our physicians are recognized on this list as they continue to have their work honored by their colleagues and maintain the superb standards of excellence we set forth.”
The 2014 Southern California Super Doctors report recognizes the top five percent of active doctors in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The selection process relies on 10 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement, surveying physicians in Southern California and ensuring the physicians named are the most respected and talented in their fields.
“We consistently strive to provide the highest quality and compassionate care for our patients and look to recruit physicians that represent this vision at Miller Children’s,” says Divya Joshi, M.D., MMM, chief medical officer, Miller Children’s. “Each year, more of our physicians are recognized on this list as they continue to have their work honored by their colleagues and maintain the superb standards of excellence we set forth.”
Since the Super Doctors report expanded to include all of Southern California in 2008, several doctors have appeared on the list every year. Long Beach Memorial, Miller Children’s and Community Hospital Long Beach have had 30 physicians achieve this status. Five physicians are making their first appearance on the list in 2014.
“Our physicians are not motivated by public recognition but acknowledge the honor in being recognized by their peers,” says Susan Melvin, D.O., chief medical officer, Long Beach Memorial. “The physicians listed as ‘Super Doctors’ are driven by their dedication to our patients, their families and the community they serve. Their passion to find advancements in clinical care has proven to greatly improve the lives of the many adults and children who have walked through our doors. I commend the doctors recognized and am proud to call them my colleagues.”
The Super Doctors peer review selection process asks doctors to nominate fellow physicians by answering the question, “If you needed medical care, which doctor would you choose?” In addition, candidates were evaluated based on professional achievement, as well as the Super Doctors’ ‘blue ribbon panel review’ process, where physicians in more than 30 specialties evaluate the list of nominees.
Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s physicians were recognized in areas including pediatrics, obstetrics and maternal fetal medicine, gynecology and gynecologic oncology, cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, urology, family and internal medicine, surgery, medical oncology and hematology, dermatology, ophthalmology, pediatric and adult gastroenterology, pediatric hematology/oncology, physical medicine/rehabilitation and pediatric rehab (physiatry), reconstructive plastic surgery, neurointerventional radiology, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, sleep medicine, pediatric and adult critical care medicine and more.
