The TJX Companies, Inc. Reports Strong August 2001 Sales

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 6, 2001--The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TJX) today reported August 2001 sales results. Sales for the four-week period ended September 1, 2001 were $826 million, up 11% over $742 million achieved during the same four-week period ended September 2, 2000. For the 30 weeks ended September 1, 2001, sales reached $5,638 million, an increase of 9% over last year's $5,152 million. Consolidated comparable store sales for the four-week period ended September 1, 2001 were up 4% over last year. For the 30-week year-to-date period, consolidated comparable store sales increased 2% over last year.
