FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 2001--The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TJX) today reported February 2001 sales results. Sales for the four week period ended March 3, 2001 were $647 million, up 7% over $605 million achieved during the comparable four week period ended March 4, 2000. Consolidated comparable store sales for the four week period ended March 3, 2001 decreased 1% from last year.

Edmond English, President and Chief Executive Officer of The TJX Companies, Inc. stated, "February represented our most difficult comparison to last year. Sales slowed somewhat in the last week of the month and, as a result, we came in slightly below our plan.
