Mr. Crittenden is a seasoned financial executive, and was recently named Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of American Express Company, effective June 1, 2000. Formerly, Mr. Crittenden was Chief Financial Officer at Monsanto Company, a global pharmaceutical and agricultural company, where he led the integration process following the recent merger of Monsanto with Pharmacia & Upjohn. Before joining Monsanto, Mr. Crittenden served as Chief Financial Officer for three major retailers, including Sears Roebuck & Co., Melville Corporation and Filene's Basement. Mr. Crittenden received a B.S. from Brigham Young University and an M.B.A. from Harvard University. He is also a director of Ryerson Tull, Inc. and Wilsons The Leather Experts Inc.
