Pantene Beautiful Lengths Urges Canadians to “Pony It Up” for National Donate Your Hair Day

PonyItUp to Pantene Beautiful Lengths to Help Create Real-Hair Wigs for Women with Cancer

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--It’s time to #PonyItUp for the annual National Donate Your Hair Day on October 19, 2013. This unifying day of giving encourages people to cut and donate their healthy hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program to make real-hair wigs available at no-cost to women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments.

“In addition to their ponytail donations that make it possible to receive real-hair wigs for free, Pantene Canada will be making a contribution as part of their Facebook campaign, which will help us invest in research, programs and advocacy to change cancer forever.”

On National Donate Your Hair Day, Pantene is encouraging women across the country to #PonyItUp and donate their ponytails. To date, the Beautiful Lengths program has collected over 52,000 ponytails to create real-hair wigs that are distributed by the Canadian Cancer Society’s wig banks across the country. Those unable to donate can still be involved by pledging to participate next year by posting on Facebook or by planning a hair-cutting and donation event for friends and family. Check out www.pantenebeautifullengths.ca for more info. Even something as simple as visiting Pantene Canada Facebook and liking our page will help support the cause, with $1 being donated to the Canadian Cancer Society for every new like from now until December 31, 2013, up to a maximum of $50,000.

On October 19, 2013, Pantene Beautiful Lengths will be partnering with some of the top salons in Canada to offer free haircuts for those who qualify to donate their hair. Donors are encouraged to book their appointments early at one of the participating salons:

“We are grateful to have this group of incredible salons supporting what is truly a remarkable cause,” says Esther Benzie, VP, Brand Operations, Procter & Gamble Inc. “In six years, with the support of thousands of generous Canadians coast-to-coast, we have managed to donate over 52,000 ponytails to help women living with cancer regain some of their dignity, confidence and sense of self. But we’re not stopping there – our goal is to donate 100,000 ponytails by 2015.”

National Donate Your Hair Day participants can show off their new cuts by Tweeting @cancersociety and posting their photos on Pantene Canada’s Facebook page using #PonyItUp.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis can be devastating. Cancer treatments can bring physical and emotional stress, and some treatments can lead to hair loss. Thanks to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program and the generosity of thousands of Canadian hair donors, the cancer journey is made a little less daunting,” says Susan Elliott, National Manager, Corporate Development, Canadian Cancer Society. “In addition to their ponytail donations that make it possible to receive real-hair wigs for free, Pantene Canada will be making a contribution as part of their Facebook campaign, which will help us invest in research, programs and advocacy to change cancer forever.”
