| Improved performance and backwards compatibility extend life of installed systems worldwide |
“There are over two billion lines of VHDM installed in networking and communications applications around the world”
Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE: TER) Connection Systems Division (TCS), the industry leader in high-performance connection systems, today announced the latest addition to its VHDM(R) connector family. The VHDM(R) H-Series connector is designed to meet the OEM's growing need to improve equipment performance in the field while curbing system costs and capital expenditures. The VHDM H-Series connector combines backwards compatibility and superior signal integrity to provide the lowest interconnect costs for new system development.
The VHDM H-Series connector leverages the proven technology of Teradyne's VHDM product family, which has been widely deployed in the most demanding applications for more than six years. The new connector can be integrated on the same rear-organizing stiffener with any combination of single-ended, differential and open-pin field versions of VHDM, and can also be designed into the same slot to optimize performance. In addition, VHDM H-Series meets the same high standards of electrical and mechanical qualifications as VHDM.
Leveraging Teradyne's GbX connector compliant pin geometry for improved signal integrity performance, VHDM H-Series uses an 0.018" hole for improved printed circuit board (PCB) routing, which can eliminate costly layers, reduce impedance discontinuities, and improve the ability to back-drill, reducing via stub effects. Additional shield compliant pins on the daughtercard wafer help to reduce peak cross-talk by up to 50%.
"There are over two billion lines of VHDM installed in networking and communications applications around the world," said Richard Humphrey, product development engineer at Teradyne Connection Systems. "Because VHDM H-Series is intermateable with existing slots, OEMs can scale their systems to next generation higher speeds rapidly and at the lowest possible development cost."
The VHDM product family also includes VHDM-HSD(TM) (high-speed differential), VHDM(R) L-series for low speed applications, VHDM Right Angle Male (RAM) and VHDM Stacking (mezzanine) derivatives, as well as a wide variety of components including power and guidance. Pricing and Availability: The VHDM H-Series connector is available now and priced at approximately $. 13 - $.18 per line in full production volumes.
Demonstrations: Teradyne will exhibit February 2-4 at the International Engineering Consortium's (IEC) DesignCon 2004 conference; Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara California, DesignCon East, April 5-7 in Boxborough, Massachusetts, and NepCon Shanghai, China, April 26-29.
