Today, Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE: TER) announced that QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM) has ordered a second Catalyst SOC test system equipped with MicroWAVE6000(TM) instrumentation. The system will be installed at the San Diego engineering facility at the end of July, and is expected to significantly increase the rate of test program development for QUALCOMM's RF integrated circuit production.
Charlie Jones, director of RF/Analog Product/Test engineering at QUALCOMM said, "We continue working with Teradyne to develop engineering and high volume production test solutions for our power management and mixed-signal integrated circuit products. Teradyne's MicroWAVE6000 option enables development of test solutions for our mixed-signal products requiring baseband, IF and RF source/measure test capabilities. The Catalyst system plays a key role in our ability to continually meet aggressive test development challenges and meet our cost of test objectives without compromising on quality. As a result, QUALCOMM can offer our customers large quantities of high-performance devices at a competitive price. Having another Catalyst system on-site increases our capacity to develop test programs, speeding our time to market.
"In addition to requiring the highest technical performance, we must be able to find platform support and capacity from our vendors and subcontractors. Teradyne's Catalyst is a world standard, offering us a large installed base, and manufacturing flexibility. Our customers can rely on us to meet their rapidly changing needs," Mr. Jones added.
David Derian, Wireless/RF Marketing Manager at Teradyne, said, "QUALCOMM's test coverage is among the most challenging in the world. We maintain frequent contact between our development teams to ensure our instrument options are world-class and meet their requirements. And with our on-site support at QUALCOMM, we coordinate field and factory applications teams in order to respond with the latest test techniques and support rapid deployment around the world."
About MicroWAVE6000
The MicroWAVE6000 instrumentation suite provides a complete range of RF/microwave test capabilities required for current and future wireless devices and communications standards. MicroWAVE6000 includes full 6 GHz source, measure and vector network analysis (VNA) capability, complete 12-term error correction, and graphical-user interface (GUI) based test templates for programming ease-of-use plus options, including: modulation to 2.7 GHz, up to 16 RF pins, noise figure test option, phase noise test option and frequency hopping.
Fully integrated within Catalyst and A5 test systems, MicroWAVE6000 is the only RF/microwave instrumentation available that also allows for complete system configuration flexibility for today's high-volume production environment. Catalyst and A5 systems can either be configured as focused RF test solutions, with ample room for further instrument expansion, or as complete wireless SOC test solutions by augmenting MicroWAVE6000 with the full complement of Teradyne's mixed-signal AC, DC, and digital instrumentation. In addition, MicroWAVE6000 instrumentation can be added easily to Catalyst and A5 installed systems.
