Agere Systems Selects New Teradyne Tiger

BOSTON--()--June 21, 2001--Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE: TER) announced today that Agere Systems (NYSE: AGR.A) has selected the new Catalyst Tiger test system to develop testing programs for integrated circuits that Agere is producing for hard disk drive manufacturers.

Agere Systems, which provides a full line of mass storage semiconductors, selected Tiger because of its throughput on sophisticated ICs known as read channels--chips that are used to write data to and retrieve data from a disk platter.

"Teradyne is pleased that Agere Systems, which industry analysts have ranked as the leader in read-channel IC sales, will use Tiger in its hard disk drive electronics business. Tiger's high-speed digital capabilities enable it to perform the critical tests required to get products to market first," said Ellen Eisele, Tiger Product Manager. "Tiger also offers the powerful software tools needed for program development and the broad suite of analog and digital instrumentation to cover the widest range of system-on-a-chip and mixed-signal testing requirements."

The Tiger system has the capability to test devices with up to 512 differential input and output signals at 1.6Gb/s or 1024 single-ended signals. This accuracy is required for measuring some of today's communications devices that operate with signals up to 1.25 Gb/s.

About Tiger

The Catalyst Tiger is the first over 1 Gbps SOC test system. Extending the Catalyst Family, Tiger shares the same high throughput zero-time DSP architecture, IMAGE(TM) software and state-of-the-art analog instruments and extends the Catalyst Family to 1024 digital pins. Powered by breakthrough Silicon Germanium (SiGe) technology, Tiger sets a new digital performance standard with full I/O data rates to 1.6 Gbps while retaining the timing flexibility at top speed demanded by chipset and network processing applications.

About Catalyst

Catalyst dominates the SOC market with test capabilities for Mass Storage, Datacom, DSL, wireless, microwave and power management applications. With more than 4,000 individual users worldwide, Catalyst's IMAGE programming system is the most widely used ATE software environment. Catalyst currently offers wireless devices, quad-site testing, providing the best test economics and most complete array of analog instrumentation. When a cell call is placed, or a PC, printer, scanner, pager or a DVD is utilized, Catalyst-tested ICs make it happen.
