The Test Technology Technical Council (TTTC) today awarded Teradyne founder, Alex d'Arbeloff with the Lifetime Contribution Award to the Test World at the International Test Conference (ITC) show here in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The award is the highest award given by the IEEE Computer Society to an individual in the test field.
The Council recognized d'Arbeloff's contributions to the test world in his role as the founder of Teradyne. The award citation honors him as "father of the ATE industry." The Council is part of the IEEE Computer Society that organizes the annual ITC show.
About Alex d'Arbeloff
Mr. d'Arbeloff together with Nicholas DeWolf founded Teradyne, Inc. in 1960. Teradyne is now a leading manufacturer of automatic test equipment and interconnection systems for the electronics and telecommunications industries. He served as president and chief executive officer until May 1997, and Chairman of the Board until June 2000. Teradyne's 1999 annual sales were $1.8 billion, with net profits of $192 million. Teradyne is the world's largest producer of automatic test equipment for the semiconductor industry.
Alex d'Arbeloff, a member of the MIT Corporation since 1989, was named Chairman of the MIT Corporation on July 1, 1997. He has served on MIT's Corporation Development Committee and on visiting committees for the Departments of Economics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering. In addition, Mr. d'Arbeloff has taught classes at the Sloan School of Management, and developed and teaches a course on management and entrepreneurship for mechanical engineering graduate students.
Mr. d'Arbeloff serves on the boards of several private and non-profit institutions. He is a co-founder of Sparkventures, an early stage fund focused on investments in the New England area.
Born in France, Mr. d'Arbeloff lived in Paris and in South America before his family moved to the United States. He spent his adolescence in the New York area, then came to Massachusetts in 1945 to attend MIT, earning the SB in Management from the Institute in 1949. Alex and his wife Brit, also an MIT alum, reside in Brookline, Massachusetts. They have four children, and one grandchild.
