Separately, Teradyne Connection Systems also acquired two California-based companies this week. Herco Technology Corporation (San Diego) is a leading manufacturer of printed circuit boards. Synthane Taylor (La Verne, CA) manufactures laminate materials. Together, the acquisitions give Teradyne Connection Systems nearly 300,000 sf of multilayer printed circuit board fabrication capacity to support its backplane assembly business.
With the addition of these new dedicated manufacturing facilities, Teradyne will have nearly one million square feet of production space throughout the United States and Europe.
Teradyne Connection Systems manufacturers high-technology backplanes, connector systems, and electromechanical subassemblies. Backplanes serve as the central interconnection panel for circuit boards; Teradyne focuses on high-end, `large-format' backplanes and high-speed/high-density connectors that together help equipment makers solve their need for greater bandwidth.
Rick Schneider, Teradyne Connection Systems' General Manager and a vice president of Teradyne, Inc. explains why the new facilities are needed: "The information superhighway is paved with fast switches, routers, and servers. At the heart of these systems are backplanes and interconnects, most manufactured by Teradyne. Our customers have an appetite for high-performance interconnect solutions and that's fueling our capacity expansion across the board."
