Raising Testing Standards, EJB-test 2.2 Results in Superior Quality, High Performing EJB Applications; Free EJB-test Introductory
Developer Package Offered for BEA WebLogic 5.1 Users
RSW Software Inc., the e-business application testing technology leader and a business unit of Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE:TER), today announced the availability of EJB-test 2.2, the latest version of the industry's only solution for testing the scalability and functionality of Enterprise JavaBeans(TM) (EJB) middle-tier applications. Significant enhancements to EJB-test, a 100 percent Java application, include advanced session bean support, dynamic graphing capabilities and extended functional testing. With this release, RSW raises the testing standards for EJBs and EJB applications, allowing developers to create superior quality and high performing EJB middle-tier applications.
Additionally, RSW announced the availability of a free EJB-test developer package for BEA WebLogic(TM) 5.1 users. This package allows developers to test the functionality of the EJBs in their WebLogic 5.1 e-commerce applications, as well as test the performance of EJBs when being accessed by multiple users. The free introductory developer package will assist businesses in successfully launching their WebLogic applications.
According to Giga Information Group, Inc. the estimated size of the Enterprise JavaBean application server market in 1999 was $585 million and is expected to balloon to $1.64 billion in 2000 and to continue to grow rapidly, reaching $9 billion by 2003. Identifying this market trend early, RSW developed its EJB-test to address the critical need for a full life-cycle EJB testing solution that could help ensure the success of EJB initiatives. EJB-test provides a non-intrusive solution for uncovering functional and performance problems in EJB applications. It provides an easy - and accurate - means for testing and reporting EJB application response times resulting from various concurrent client loads. By using EJB-test, proper application server tuning and capacity planning can be achieved. And, by using EJB-test to test EJBs early in the development cycle, performance tradeoffs about architectural alternatives can be made - saving companies significant time and money.
Many early adopters of EJBs have painfully realized that it is both time consuming and costly to test EJB middle-tier applications after they have been deployed. Scalability problems uncovered late in the development cycle can take months to isolate and fix--forcing critical deadlines to be missed and causing lost revenues. For these reasons, companies working with EJBs have come to recognize the value of full life-cycle testing and realize that it is critical to test EJB components throughout the development cycle, as well as after deployment.
Concrete, Inc. was one of the first companies to embrace EJB-test in its business processes. With a heritage of building and operating successful Internet businesses, Concrete Inc. uses EJBs as a part of the development process to offer clients fully integrated, end-to-end solutions that incorporate Internet strategy, project management, design and technology, and network management.
"When designing a Web site it is critical that we use EJBs that have zero defects," said Michael Flickman, Chief Technology Officer, Concrete, Inc. "With a strong commitment to adhering to a reuse-driven software engineering development process, it is extremely important for us to be able to accurately and rigorously test EJBs for functionality and performance. If problems are not found up front, other projects could potentially use the same components that have defects - leading to disaster. By helping us detect problems early, RSW's EJB-test gives us an easy and accurate way to ensure that our EJBs perform and function at top levels."
Version 2.2 of EJB-test provides an even easier and more accurate means for conducting functionality and performance testing of EJBs--as individual components, as a group of components or as an entire EJB application. Key features of EJB-test 2.2 include:
| -- | Enhanced Session Bean Support: Allows the user to apply test data to a session bean with an easy to use data table. This feature also supports XML data - enabling accurate and realistic tests. |
| -- | Dynamic Graphing: EJB-test now offers real-time graphing capabilities which enable the user to easily detect performance bottlenecks in real-time. As tests are run, dynamic graphs - depicting test results - are produced. These graphs enable the user to easily and quickly isolate performance and functionality problems during test completion - saving users a considerable amount of time. |
| -- | Enhanced Functional Testing: Users can now define a baseline against which subsequent tests can be run and compared. This creates benchmark metrics, which saves time in future testing and eliminates the constant need for coding and re-writing of tests. |
"One of the most critical issues that our customers face is ensuring that the functionality and performance of their EJB applications will meet user demands," said Walter Vahey, General Manager of the Middleware Test Group for RSW Software. "With the latest version of EJB-test, our customers will be able to meet their aggressive time-to-market demands and fully leverage the promise of application development speed that EJB technology holds."
