Catalyst Tiger Tests Broadcom`s New Transceiver; First SOC Test System with Digital I/O over 1 Gigabit/sec to Test World`s First 10 Gigabit Transceiver

SAN JOSE, Calif.--()--July 12, 2000--Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE: TER) announced today that Broadcom Corporation, the leading provider of integrated circuits enabling high-speed broadband communications, has purchased the new Catalyst Tiger test system. Tiger is an extension of the industry leading Catalyst system-on-a-chip (SOC) tester family. With 1024 digital pins, integrated analog, and I/O rates to 1.6 Gbps, Tiger leads the way into the Internet Era. Broadcom will use its new Catalyst Tiger on its first 10 Gigabit 4 Channel CMOS transceiver. The sale announcement was made here at the industry trade show Semicon West July 12-14, 2000.

Teradyne's Catalyst family defined SOC test with a unique combination of parallel processing architecture to achieve high test speeds, integrated analog from audio to microwave, and SOC digital combining functional, scan, and memory test. Tiger extends Catalyst into high speed and high pin count applications like networking, chipsets and parallel SOC test.

"Even as technologies rapidly evolve Teradyne is ready with test solutions that enable us to bring devices to market first. The new Catalyst Tiger achieves the SOC data rate and test economics that our 10-Gigabit Transceiver demands," said Vahid Manian, Broadcom Vice President of Operations.

"By reaching 10 gigabits per second Broadcom has set a new standard in Internet data speed," said Jeff Schneider, Teradyne, Marketing Manager, Industrial/Consumer Division. "Tiger sets a new standard as well. Whether raw data rate or throughput, Tiger redefines what high performance SOC test means. Broadcom's decision to continue exclusively with Teradyne shows that anticipating market needs and getting there first remain key to success," continued Schneider.

About Catalyst

Catalyst continues to be the first choice in SOC test capability for DSL, wireless, microwave, and power management applications as well as the economic leader, introducing parallel SOC test. If you made a cell call, used your PC, printed or scanned a document, got paged, or watched a DVD, you used Catalyst tested ICs.

Catalyst Tiger is the first over 1 Gbps SOC test system. Extending the Catalyst family, Tiger shares the same high throughput zero-time DSP architecture, IMAGE(TM) software, and state-of-the-art analog instruments and extends the Catalyst family to 1024 digital pins. Powered by breakthrough Silicon Germanium (SiGe) technology, Tiger sets a new digital performance standard with full I/O data rates to 1.6 Gbps while retaining the timing flexibility at top speed demanded by chipset and network processing applications.
