Teradyne`s Chairman of the Board of Directors and Founder, Alex d`Arbeloff Retires

BOSTON--()--May 31, 2000--

Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE: TER) today announced the retirement of the company's Chairman of the Board of Directors and founder, Alex d'Arbeloff. Teradyne's President and CEO, George Chamillard was elected to replace d'Arbeloff as Chairman, effective June 1, 2000.

"I have asked Alex to be available to advise me periodically and he has agreed with enthusiasm," Chamillard stated accepting the chairmanship. "As a Teradyne founder, Alex has been a primary force over the past 40 years guiding Teradyne to its market-leading position. I am proud to have been able to work with Alex since I joined Teradyne in 1969. He has set the standard for effective, visionary leadership."

Describing the transition d'Arbeloff noted, "Six years ago we began the process to develop and empower new management that would take over from the founding team. We have succeeded well beyond expectations, and Teradyne is a much stronger company today than it was when I turned it over to George Chamillard in 1994, and there is no one prouder of that fact than I am."

Mr. d'Arbeloff will continue as Chairman of the Corporation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Chairman of the Management Board of Teradyne's Software Test Group and as an advisor to Sparkventures, a venture capital partnership.
