ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.--()--Ascellus, the leading behavioral health provider in the workers’ compensation industry, focused on helping injured workers restore their physical and emotional wellbeing, today announced the appointment of Matthew Hersey as Vice President of National Sales.

“Matt is a long-sought-after addition to our team,” said Lori Daugherty, Chief Executive Officer at Ascellus. “As Ascellus extends a rapid-growth strategy, Matt’s strong relationships in the workers’ compensation market and his passion for teamwork and exceeding client expectations make him an integral fit in this role.”

At Ascellus, Hersey will focus on developing strategic partnerships by building awareness around Ascellus programs and the importance of early behavioral health intervention. In addition, Hersey will influence the path forward for the growth team, ensuring that our products and services meet the changing needs and demands of the workers’ compensation market.

Hersey joins Ascellus with more than 15 years of experience in the workers’ compensation industry. Prior to joining Ascellus, Hersey was Vice President of National Sales for Optum Workers’ Compensation and Auto No-Fault divisions where he was a key contributor to growth and partnerships in his 6.5 years there. In addition, he ensured the delivery of high-quality products and solutions across the payer, managed care and employer markets.

“Behavioral health continues to provide proven benefits in healthcare and Ascellus is filling in a very important gap in the workers’ compensation application,” said Matthew Hersey, Vice President of National Sales at Ascellus. “The demand for cognitive behavioral therapy for injured workers has increased, and I’m excited to use my healthcare and workers’ compensation expertise to help Ascellus grow its footprint.”

Offering expanded access to high-quality, personalized mental healthcare, Ascellus brings people and technology together in the company's nationwide network of 1,500 licensed clinicians to deliver customized treatment options, reduce costs for workers' compensation claims and empower injured workers to return to work sooner.

Ascellus provides treatment plans for pain management, workplace trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), COVID-19, and California Stress Claims. While around two-thirds of treatment goals - set by the employee and therapist in conjunction with the claims examiner - are reached within seven weeks of therapy, treatment continues for as long as appropriate.
