Simbe Welcomes Tom Gehani as Vice President of Customer Success

Veteran Retail Technology Expert to Lead Global Partnerships for Simbe’s Growing Business

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Today, Simbe Robotics, Inc. proudly announces that Tom Gehani, a retail and technology veteran with deep expertise in inventory management and business development, has joined the team as Vice President of Customer Success.

With more than 10 years of experience in retail, Tom has worked with brands like Target, Nike, Best Buy, General Mills, Home Depot, and others to create online-to-offline customer experiences. Tom joins Simbe to lead partnership success and ensure its automated inventory solution, Tally, is fully leveraged in various retail environments.

“As we expand our global footprint and empower retailers with better insights into shelf health and inventory optimization, Tom is a natural fit for our growing team,” said Simbe CEO and Co-Founder Brad Bogolea. “He has a tremendous amount of hands-on experience helping retailers streamline their operations, and we’re thrilled to have him on board to further support our partners.”

Prior to joining Simbe, Tom served as a digital strategy expert at L2 and Gartner, where he advised and guided C-Suite leaders at CPGs, grocery, department stores, and big box retailers in digital benchmarking, competitive and industry intelligence, and creating long-term digital strategy to enhance customer service and shopper engagement both online and offline. He also spent time at retail technology startup Shopkick, a loyalty platform that incentivized shoppers to visit in-person stores, where his success in cultivating customer relationships and leveraging technology to improve physical retail helped to scale the business.

During his five-year tenure at Target, Tom helped lead the expansion of the retailer's grocery business. In this role, he saw first-hand the importance of accurate stock forecasting and replenishment systems for frozen and perishable foods, and he experienced the challenges of maintaining accurate inventory counts across thousands of stores. Through this work, Tom realized the opportunity for stores through accurate shelf information, leading him to develop a deep appreciation for how Simbe is innovating inventory data collection.

“From over a decade working in and advising retailers, the single biggest obstacle I’ve seen brick-and-mortars consistently face is a lack of accurate inventory data,” said Gehani. “In a retail technology landscape full of shiny objects and solutions seeking problems, Simbe has developed meaningful ways to arm retailers and brands with the data they need to make better business decisions and improve the customer experience. Simbe's combination of automation, data intelligence, and people-empowering technology represents the real future of retail, and it’s available and at work right now. I’m honored to be part of the team and excited to help retailers roll out this innovative technology.”

Amid the current pandemic, research shows that customers are less loyal to retailers and more likely to switch up their shopping routines than ever before. It’s crucial, then, for stores to double down on customer experience while also ensuring the safety for employees and customers. With Tally, shoppers leave stores with the items they need while store associates are able to minimize exposure in aisles.

To date, Simbe has deployed Tally in more than a dozen of the world’s top retailers in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The company raised $26 million in Series A funding last September, along with inventory financing to develop and deploy an additional 1,000 Tally robots over the next two years.
